Real Madrid getting closer to the title Spanish League this season. Even so, coach Carlo Ancelotti do not want to be too confident until his team is really no longer overtaken by competitors.
Madrid just got a big 3-0 win at home Mallorca, Tuesday (15/3/2022) early morning WIB. Vinicius Junioe scored in the 55th minute, followed by Karim Benzema’s two goals in the 77th and 82nd minutes.
This additional three points makes Madrid firmly at the top of the standings with 66 points from 28 matches, 10 points ahead of Sevilla who have also played 28 times. Sevilla the day before were held to a 1-1 draw by Rayo Vallecano.
Looking at the competition in the rest of this season, Madrid is clearly more favored than its rivals. Apart from leaving Sevilla, El Real is also 15 points away from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid who occupy the top four positions.
Even so, Madrid’s path to the championship ladder is not easy. To seal the title mathematically, Madrid need to win the next six games, including against Barcelona (20 March) and Sevilla (17 April).
This is what makes Ancelotti remain calm in his attitude. Decades of career as a coach, he knows how it feels to fail to win when the title is in sight. The advantages of existing points can disappear at any time.
“I tell you, I’ve lost in the Champions League final even though I was 3-0 up. Hopefully something like that doesn’t happen to me again,” Ancelotti replied when asked about Madrid’s current points advantage, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Ancelotti and his AC Milan were victims of the Istanbul miracle in the 2005 Champions League final. Against Liverpool, the Rossoneri were 3-0 up in the first half, but conceded three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half and ended up losing on penalties.
