“Belgian Music Days” has come to an end

Fifteen concerts over three days, after which only one judgment is possible: Belgian music is multifaceted. Lorenzo Carola, director of the “Forum des Compositeurs” and artistic director of the Belgian Music Days, knows this too. “We want to offer diversity. Because it is very important for us to present the whole panorama to the audience. But also to present how active contemporary music and ensembles are in Belgium.”

Ostbelgien Festival acted as the host for the third edition of the Belgian Music Days. And its artistic director, Hans Reul, is more than satisfied at the end of the three days. “The most important thing is probably to see and hear how exciting Belgian music can be over the centuries.”

“What great composers we have had in history and what interesting composers we have today and that we have performers who can reproduce and perform this. After all, it was only Belgian artists that we presented here. And that was a very nice experience for me on these three days.”

Three days that summarized three centuries of Belgian music history. What has resonated with the audience. “After the concerts, there was always discussion – sometimes with the musicians, sometimes among the guests,” describes Reul.

“It’s interesting to see how differently the program was interpreted. One loved a concert, the other spoke less to it. But that’s the interesting thing about a festival like this, that you can offer a different range and that can then also be received differently.”

The program was also enriched by the East Belgian side. The musicians and composers Gerhard Sporken, Michael Schneider, Christian Klinkenberg, Wolfgang Delnui and Paul Pankert were also on the program. The latter three were allowed to close the festival.

Her contemporary compositions, summarized as a triptych, were premiered on Sunday evening. “This is of course a very special pleasure for us as KL-EX. We are the association Klang-Experimente together with Christian Klinkenberg and Wolfgang Delnui. We started a joint project with video and the wind quintet Styx. And that’s a really great thing for us here in Eupen,” says Paul Pankert.

In the Klassikzeit on March 22, BRF music editor Patrick Lemmens will address the premiered works by Wolfgang Delnui, Christian Klinkenberg and Paul Pankert. Go to the show page…
