PLN: Aceh’s Power Outages Due to Arun LNG Supply Disruption Page all

BANDA ACEH, KOMPAS.com – PT PLN (Persero) stated that there was a disturbance in the regasification installation owned by PT Perta Arun Gas (PAG) in Arun has caused its cessation supply Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to a number of power plants owned by the company.

This has resulted in the electricity system of Northern Sumatra losing its supply electricity of 1,124 megawatts (MW).

General Manager of PLN Aceh Regional Parent Unit (UIW) Parulian Noviandri explained that the disturbance at the PAG Arun regasification facility owned by a subsidiary of PT Pertamina (Persero) on Saturday (12/3/2022) at 08.30 WIB caused the LNG supply to stop.

This resulted in the cessation of the operation of the Arun PLTMG, Belawan MVPP, Paya Pasir MPP, and Nanjing PLTG.

He emphasized that there was no damage to the entire PLN electricity infrastructure. blackout electricity occurs due to the cessation of LNG supply.

“PLN is moving quickly by taking a number of anticipations to reduce the impact blackout it to the customer. We apologize profusely for the inconvenience to customers who experienced blackouts,” said Parulian in his statement, Sunday (13/3/2022).

Parulian explained that PLN had activated all diesel power plants in Belawan and Paya Pasir as well as optimizing power transfer on the 275 kV backbone line from Southern and Central Sumatra to Northern Sumatra.

Thus, the North Sumatra subsystem was safe from blackouts.

He added, for the Aceh subsystem with a peak load of 530 MW, PLN also operates all fuel generating units to strengthen the electricity supply from the 2×100 MW Nagan Raya PLTU.

However, the power supply capacity is still below the peak load of 83.13 MW, resulting in 2,580 distribution substations, 29 feeders experiencing blackouts.

“It was forced at 20.15 WIB to start blackouts to 179,266 customers or the equivalent of 150.6 MWh in parts of Langsa, East Aceh, Lhokseumawe, North Aceh and Aceh Tamiang,” explained Parulian.

Parulian ensured that all power plants and infrastructure in Northern Sumatra were in a safe condition.

That way, the power plant can be operated again when the gas supply from the regasification installation belonging to Perta Arun Gas returns to normal.

“Alhamdulillah, at 21.30 WIB, the LNG began to flow and all extinguished loads had returned to normal at 22.20 WIB,” he concluded.
