Maguire has struggled for consistency since signing United from Leicester for the world’s most expensive defender label for £80 million in 2019.
Most recently, the England defender scored an own goal against Spurs. Luckily, Cristiano Ronaldo went crazy with his hat-trick and forced a 3-2 win at Old Trafford.
“Harry was with me at Hull City and, in my opinion, he didn’t have the level to be captain of Manchester United,” Elmohamady told reporters. beIN Sports.
“Man United need a player with a strong personality and I hope the next manager will give the captaincy to Ronaldo, if he stays.”
“Ronaldo can handle this responsibility and pressure, but Maguire can’t.”
“So I think the big pressure as captain affected his performances.”
“Maguire is doing really well with Leicester, a team competing for the top six of the Premier League and maybe that’s his level.”
