The first Commonwealth Day without the Queen

Kate Middleton, the tailored coat is a tribute to Ukraine
Kate Middleton showed up at the appointment with a look that totally respects the Court dress code. The Duchess of Cambridge opted for a royal blue coat, by Catherine Walker, the brand he relies on for more formal outfits. The outerwear, closed by a row of five buttons covered in fabric, ton on ton, has a V-neck, finished in velvet, is fitted to enhance Lady Middleton’s tight waist, pronounced shoulder straps and side pockets.
The color of the garment is not causal, but wants to be a tribute to the Ukrainian flag, exactly like Alexander McQueen’s golf worn by Will’s wife to visit the Kiev Cultural Center in London. Again, Kate chooses the look to convey an important message, of support to the populations suffering from the conflict caused by Putin. To her coat, the Duchess coordinates a hair of the same color, made by Lock & Co, with a maxi bow on the nape, from which I fall on my shoulders the hair combed in a semi-collected. At her feet she wears a pair of suede pumps, by Rupert Sanderson, which she pairs with a clutch by Jimmy Choo.
Kate Middleton, the meaning of Diana’s jewels
Even the choice of jewels is not accidental. Kate opts for the set with sapphires, which belonged to Lady Diana. The same one she wore in October 2020 when she welcomed Ukrainian President Zelensky and his wife Olena at Kensington Palace. Another detail that leaves no doubts with who the British Monarchy takes sides in this conflict that seriously worries Europe and the whole world.
William and Kate appeared smiling and relaxed during the ceremony, although the Queen was not there who, needing to use the cane to walk, preferred not to participate. With the Dukes of Cambridge were present Charles and Camilla, Boris Johnson, the general secretary of the Commonwealth and the high commissioners in London of the member states of the Commonwealth.
Kate Middleton, Frost with Meghan Markle at Commonwealth Day
The last time the Commonwealth Day ceremony was held in attendance was March 2020, it was also the last official engagement of Harry and Meghan Markle for Buckingham Palace. The tension was sky high. The Sussexes and the Cambridgeis didn’t even look at each other. William and Kate were petrified, Harry had a grim expression as Lady Markle tried not to lose the fake smile, of circumstance.
In 2021, due to the pandemic, the event in attendance was suspended, the Queen gave the traditional speech on video where she called for unity and cohesion, just as the Sussexes were preparing to air with the famous interview-scandal to Oprah Winfrey. A month later Elizabeth would remain a widowher husband, Prince Philip died at the age of 99 on 9 April 2021, on the day of the wedding anniversary of Charles and Camilla.
