The insects were found to be able to distinguish cancer cells from healthy human cells through their sense of smell.

However, experts say more clinical trials must be conducted before the method can be used in hospitals.

Researchers predict ants could be better than dogs at finding human cancer cells in the future.

To carry out the experiment, the scientists used 36 ants in the laboratory.

The first step, the ants are exposed to the smell of human cancer cell samples.

The second step, the researchers will leave the ants with two different smells.
