Actor William Hurt has died – Novinky.cz

“The Hurts’ family mourns the death of William Hurt, a beloved father and Oscar-winning actor,” the actor’s son Will said, according to Deadline.

“He died peacefully, for natural reasons, surrounded by his family,” he added.

In 2018, the actor said that doctors had diagnosed him with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones, Reuters reported.

William Hurt, who would celebrate his 72nd birthday on March 20, made his silver screen debut in the 1980s. In 1986, he won an Oscar for his performance in The Spider Woman’s Kiss.

He was also awarded at the Cannes International Film Festival for his role as a homosexual in a South American prison. He was nominated for an Oscar three more times, for his role as a teacher for the deaf in God’s Forgotten Children (1986), for his role as an ambitious TV announcer in Broadcasting (1987), and in 2005 for his supporting role in David Cronenberg’s History of Violence.

In 2000, Hurt filmed the sci-fi series Duna in the Czech Republic and took part in the gala evening of the Czech Lions Award, where he presented one of the awards.
