The United States will no longer turn away unaccompanied migrant minors

The Biden Administration announced this Saturday that it will end the border policy of the era Trump, specifically in relation to the migrant minors unaccompaniedamid growing pressure from migrant advocates to get rid of this regulation.

This has been announced in a statement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that they have explained that they are going to abolish Title 42 of said policy, which allows migrant minors to be rejected at the border and prevents them from applying for asylum, leading to their expulsion from the country.

The agency has determined that “after considering current public health conditions and recent developments,” that the expulsion of unaccompanied foreign minors “is not justified to protect public health”.

“Because it is not warranted, and in recognition of the unique vulnerabilities of unaccompanied alien minors, CDC immediately rescinds the CDC Orders to the extent they apply to them. In making this determination, the CDC considered multiple factors in its public health assessment.”explains the agency in the statement.

The Office of Refugee Resettlementbelonging to the Department of Health and Human Services of the United States, will be responsible for the guardianship of minors while the CDC “implements appropriate COVI-19 mitigation measures” through a robust network of care centers providing testing.
