Perhaps the saddest day for Subaru fans came after the company officially announced that the new Impreza WRX will not receive an STI modification. An official statement said that “Subaru is considering the possibility of the next generation WRX STI, including electrification” and that the next generation STI with internal combustion engine will not be at least on the platform of the new Impreza WRX.
The news is really surprising, both for fans of the brand and for most people watching the automotive industry. After the premiere of the new generation Impreza WRX, there were a number of rumors about the STI version with 345 horsepower, and in January Subaru even showed the S4 STI Performance Concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.

It is possible that we will see a new STI model in the near future, but judging by Subaru’s plans, it will most likely be electrified in some form, which we believe will not appeal to fans of the brand.
