Already this Sunday, March 13, guitarist Aivars Hermanis invites everyone to his 65th anniversary concert in his hometown of Liepaja, the “Big Amber” concert hall. This concert has been postponed so often that Aivars has turned 67 – his birthday was on March 7.
In honor of the anniversary of Aivars Hermans jIn the oldest publishing house “MicRec” book series “The most popular songs of Latvian music” published a book, which summarizes his 50 compositions.
The names of their performers do not require comments – Igo, Ieva Akuratere, “Remix”, “Putnu Balle”, Žoržs Siksna, “Tip Top”, Normunds Rutulis, Ojārs Grinbergs, “Dzeguzīte” and others. For many, a collection of sheet music could be a real discovery and a completely new repertoire. Aivars has chosen good poetry and reliable co-authors for his songs, and they are the already mentioned Igo and Ieva Akuratere, as well as the poets Linards Tauns, Māra Zālīte, Vizma Belševica, Aspazija, Viks and others. The best known are the songs from Ieva and Igo’s joint work “Silence Between Us” with songs such as “With You”, “Whisper Awakened the City” and “About Silence”, which was once recognized as the most erotic and sensual Latvian music album.
The book also includes a biographical description of musicologist Daiga Mazvērsīte about the musician’s creative life: At that time, he devoted eight, ten or twelve hours a day to playing the guitar, and what a miracle there was that he composed melodies of his own in the middle of other composers’ compositions. At first, of course, instrumental music, and no matter what, Aivars did not write poetry, so he sought inspiration for the songs in newspapers and books. Even now, Aivars often takes a book in his hand as the first one in the morning, not in his youth, when he had to throw his head into the verse of music – he already played in the ensemble “Senči” at school, Juris Pavītols invited to his group, the first “Līvs”. Playing a wide range of repertoire, the individual style of playing gradually developed, influenced by jazz, blues, and heavy rock, which was less pronounced in the songs written by Aivars. In total, there are about a hundred of them, some of which are also created for theater performances and radio productions. ”
