Yesterday, the nominees of the competition “Golden Apple Tree 2021” were announced at the Latvian National Museum of Art. We will find out the eight winners of the competition on April 11.
This year, 54 publishers participated in the competition with 133 books, of which the jury named 40 books in eight categories – poetry, prose, reference literature, documentary, scientific and art editions, evaluating the concept of book design, its content, layout and choice of printing. books for children and books for young people. The prize for a lifetime contribution to book publishing is awarded to Dace Pugača, a long-term executive director of the Latvian Association of Publishers, who has dedicated 26 years of work to book publishing.
From today until Sunday, March 13, the books named for the prize will be on display at the “Latvian Book Exhibition 2022” in Kipsala. From March 14 to April 7, the readers’ vote for the most beautiful book of 2021 will take place on the portal “LSM.lv”. From March 16, the books will be available at the Riga Central Library and throughout the year in nine branches of the library. From March 22, they will be available on an interactive stand in the foyer of the third floor of the Latvian National Museum of Art. On April 21, they will go to Sigulda Devonian, which is the first stop on the tour of Latvian cultural centers.
The compliance of the books with the criteria set by the competition was assessed by a jury chaired by Ieva Bečere, Executive Director of the Latvian Association of Printing Companies.
