The Civil Guard highlights that it is “a criminal group that was perfectly organized and hierarchical”

SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, 11 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Civil Guard has investigated three people living in Alicante for swindling some 9,000 euros from a resident of the Coruña municipality of Noia, posing as Microsoft technicians.

As reported by the Armed Institute, the investigation ‘Alimicro’ carried out by the Team @ Milladoiro of the Civil Guard Command of A Coruña, in collaboration with the Main Post of Ibi (Alicante), has resulted in the investigation of three people residing in the town of Ibi (Alicante) to defraud a neighbor of Noia within the scope of cybercrime as false Microsoft technicians.

The events began last year, when the victim of the scam went to the Civil Guard headquarters in Noia, to report that they had made various transfers from his bank account worth 9,000 euros.

In his complaint, he reported that days before he had received a phone call, in which the caller explained that he was a technician from the Microsoft company and that they had detected that there were several viruses on his personal computer, which made it difficult for it to function properly.

The victim gave credibility to the false technician, and proceeded to install a program, in order to manage the computer remotely. The author explained that to do all the checks, remove viruses and fix the computer he had to leave the computer on for several hours, the Benemérita has reported.

At that time, and taking advantage of the fact that he had control of the complainant’s computer, he made various transfers worth 9,000 euros. Thus, the Team@Milladoiro proceeded to carry out the operational activity to be able to locate the author or authors of said illegal act.

“ECONOMIC MULE”

The person who had benefited from the transfers turned out to be a resident of the Alicante town of Ibi, what is known as “an economic mule”, explains the Civil Guard, a person to whom the money is transferred and who receives a third person and delivery to another in exchange for a commission.

Before this first investigation, the Team@, realized that they were “before a criminal group that was perfectly organized and hierarchical”, underlines the Armed Institute.

As a result of the work carried out, the Civil Guard proceeded to locate two more people; a second, who was in charge of getting people to perform the function of the so-called “mules”, and a third and last investigated, above the previous two, who managed and distributed the money of the criminal group, which had a history for fraud throughout the national territory, with the same modus operandi.

The proceedings initiated by the @Milladoiro Team have been sent to the court of the town of Noia.
