Facebook and Instagram will allow calls for violence against Russians and Putin’s death

The war between Russia and Ukraine has had a global impact. As mentioned, this is hybrid warfare as it takes place on the ground, but also in the digital realm.

According to recent reports, Facebook and Instagram will allow incitement to violence against Russians and calls for Putin’s death! The news is advanced by the Reuters agency and is unpublished.

Posts on Facebook and Instagram will also be able to appeal for the death of the Belarusian president

Social networks Facebook and Instagram will allow users in certain countries to incite violence against Russian citizens and soldiers amid the invasion of Ukraine, according to internal emails seen by Reuters on Thursday.

These platforms will also temporarily allow certain posts calling for the death of Russian President Vladimir Putin or Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. According to the news agency – which has had access to a series of internal emails to content moderators – these calls for the death of leaders will only be authorized if they have no other targets, nor two Credibility indicators, such as location or method, refers to CNN.

The emails also stated that calls for violence against Russians were allowed when the message was clearly about invading Ukraine. Temporary changes apply to the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Slovakia, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Ukraine.

It should be noted that last week Russia announced that it would ban Facebook in the country, in response to what it said were restrictions on Russian media access to the platform.

Several social networks have meanwhile announced new restrictions on content about the conflict – including the blocking of state media such as RT and Sputnik in Europe.

As mentioned, this is an unprecedented decision that sets precedents. It is unclear what the impact and purpose of such a possibility will be.
