Huge Russian convoy is split up • Zelensky: 40,000 people evacuated

The huge Russian military convoy that had been stationed north of Kiev since last week has split up. Parts of the 60-kilometer convoy are now in forests and cities around Kiev, according to new satellite images from US space technology company Maxar. Bad weather prevented the company from taking new photos for several days, but things cleared up on Thursday.

The convoy had been practically stationary for several days. According to experts possibly because of logistical problems: too little food for the military, for example, a lack of fuel and poor maintenance of the equipment. Ukrainian troops also say they attacked the convoy. Artillery vehicles are now said to have positioned themselves in a combat position at the edge of the forest near the village of Lubyanka. Several armored cars can be seen at villages around Hostomel airport.

Experts previously called the convoy a threat to Kiev, but also emphasized its vulnerability. “This is a gigantic convoy. I would be surprised if there were no losses there. It is a very attractive target,” said former director of the Military Intelligence and Security Service Pieter Cobelens earlier.
