Doctor: Comorbid elderly can receive COVID-19 vaccine as long as it’s under control

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. dr. Kuntjoro Harimurti said the elderly who suffer from comorbidities can receive the COVID-19 vaccination as long as the disease is under control.

“In those who have comorbid diseases, this is actually not a contra-indication to then vaccinate the elderly, but must be under controlled or controlled conditions,” said dr. Kuncoro in an online event entitled “Why Do Vulnerable Groups Need Immediate Vaccination against COVID-19?” which was followed in Jakarta, Thursday night.

His party explained that the elderly suffer more from various diseases such as diabetes mellitus or diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and kidney disease.

Therefore, since the launch of the COVID-19 vaccination program, vaccination for the elderly with comorbidities must be carried out with caution.

“When the COVID-19 vaccination was first introduced and used as a program, it was mentioned that the elderly or those with comorbidities, including the elderly, should be careful or pay close attention when they have comorbidities,” said the Geriatric Consultant.

However, Kuntjoro said after the vaccination program was running, this health condition would not be too much of a problem because the elderly who were exposed to COVID-19 could experience more severe symptoms and could be fatal.

“Even for those who have health problems, they are at risk for experiencing COVID-19, when they experience COVID-19 (health conditions) they become more severe and can be fatal,” he said.

Therefore, his party hopes that it is more important for the elderly with health problems to be vaccinated against COVID-19.*
