Perhaps the most famous city in the world, New York is the largest city in the United States. With 8 million inhabitants, it is not surprising that this busy metropolis is also called “The city that never sleeps”.
The island of Manhattan, the bustling heart of New York, is where everything happens. The beautiful skyline, many museums, bars and restaurants, and of course the Central Park. Not as big as Central Park but popular among New Yorkers is Bryant Park. On the edge of this park you will find The New York Public Library. The impressive building houses millions of books, as well as photographs and manuscripts. There are more interesting buildings in New York than anywhere else in the world, but the must-see buildings after a city trip to New York are the Empire State Building, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, the Chrystler Building and Rockefeller Center. Just outside Manhattan, on Liberty Island, is the Statue of Liberty. Not only can you admire the Statue of Liberty during a sightseeing tour by boat, you can actually visit it. Another landmark is Times Square, with overwhelming advertisements on all buildings. Broadway is part of Times Square, where all the theaters can be found. Broadway is also excellent for shopping, as in Fifth Avenue or in one of the department stores such as Macy’s or Bloomingdales. In addition to buildings, sights and parks, there are also beautiful museums in New York. The Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art are highly recommended for culture lovers.
New York is also the perfect place to go out. There is a lot of competition and the clubs alternate at a rapid pace. Still, there are some clubs that always remain popular, such as Roxy, Sound Factory and The Tunnel. Hot dogs and pretzels are available on every street corner in New York. And of course you can’t miss the well-known fast food chains such as Burger King, McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken. If you want to eat out in a more chic way, you can go to one of the Michelin-starred restaurants such as Le Bernardin or Jean-Georges.
In addition to the possibility to get into one of the yellow taxis, New York also has an excellent subway and bus network. The climate in New York is humid continental. It can be quite freezing and snowy in the winter while the weather can be very hot in the summer.
