And the Mac mini M1 Pro in all this?

Following the presentation of the Mac Studio and the Studio Display screen last night, Apple withdrew the 27″ iMac with Intel processor from the catalog without having a replacement. Particularly high-end, the Mac Studio is also very expensive with a basic configuration at €2,299. We arrive at a situation that is surprising to say the least: it’s been a long time since Apple has offered so many different desktop computers, and it’s been a long time since the range has was also frustrating. Indeed, on the one hand we have the 24″ iMac and the Mac mini which are aimed at the general public, then the Mac Studio and the Mac Pro which are aimed at demanding professionals. There is nothing in between!

As for the 27″ iMac, it looks like a new model is well on the way, but it’s too late for Apple to address the subject at this time. And for the Mac mini, an update update seems inevitable in the medium term and Apple has left us a huge clue: the high-end model with Intel processor is still in the catalog. If Apple wanted the Mac Studio to take up the torch, a model with an M1 Pro chip would have been released at a more affordable price and the Mac mini with Intel processor would have disappeared.

So it’s only a matter of time for Apple to take care of the Mac mini. Rumors have already been numerous and we expect the presentation of a model dropping the capacities of the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips, with enhanced RAM and storage (minimum of 16 GB and 512 GB, up to 64 GB and 8 TB) and richer connectivity. There’s also talk of a design overhaul for the future model with the Apple M2 chip, but it’s unclear at this stage if the new, more compact design would affect the whole range or just a small model that could lose its fan for the first time. ‘occasion. Will we learn more at WWDC in June? Mark Gurman had warned that there would be new Macs in March but also in June: so we cross our fingers.
