Domestic violence – “demand has increased sharply” – Zurich now has a men’s shelter

The Zwueschehalt association has opened a men’s shelter in Zurich. After Bern and Lucerne, it is the third location in Switzerland where male victims of domestic violence find protection. “The demand for houses where affected men can find a place of refuge is increasing,” says Gregor Faust, trauma therapist and head of the Men’s Home in Zurich. He himself noticed this in his daily work with those affected and campaigned strongly for the opening of another men’s shelter.

The house in Zurich could be occupied in February. It can accommodate up to nine people and is also designed to support fathers with children. Children are also welcome there at weekends within the framework of visitation rights. According to Faust, two places are currently occupied. The trauma therapist does not disclose the exact address: “For security reasons, we don’t do that. However, those affected can contact us at any time and we will take them there. »

According to Faust, the association does not receive any financial support from the federal government or the cantons and is therefore dependent on donations and membership fees. The houses are managed by professionals. Further locations are planned.
