Dresden. Sebastian Mai just seemed to be getting back to his old strength when the ex-captain of Dynamo Dresden was already hit by the next forced break. The defender injured his left ankle during the morning training session for the Black and Yellows on Wednesday. With a pained face, the 28-year-old lay down after an apparently unsuccessful defensive action. His teammate Tim Knipping immediately called the supervisors, who immediately took care of the unlucky player and freed his foot from the shoe and examined it more closely. Further investigations eventually revealed that Mai suffered a torn lateral ligament in his left ankle. He will now be missing Dynamo for several weeks, the club announced in the evening.

Dynamo’s sporting director Ralf Becker explained: “Sebastian Mai’s absence is very bitter. ‘Basti’ had worked hard to get back into the starting XI and played a really good game in Bremen. Of course he’ll be with us too his mentality on the pitch is missing. We will support him as best we can in his healing process and wish him a speedy recovery.”

Mai, who has been under contract with SGD since summer 2020, says: “An injury is always inappropriate, but this time it’s extremely bitter. I’ve had a really good feeling again in the past few weeks, was happy on the pitch and was able to achieve a lot of what I had planned to do in the away game in Bremen. Now my goal will be to be able to return to team training as soon as possible. I really want to help our team in the final stretch of the season.”F
