In the run-up to the municipal elections, Kantar Public will publish the results of a poll for 15 Dutch municipalities once. It is striking that the Amsterdam voter definitively turns left, but that the voter in Rotterdam votes even more right than during the previous elections. GroenLinks is therefore the frontrunner in Amsterdam, and in Rotterdam no party seems to be going to win against Liveable Rotterdam.
In Amsterdam they have decided: The city takes the final exit to the left. In 2018, 20 percent of ‘Amsterdammers’ (mostly import) voted for GroenLinks. This year, the prognosis is 17 to 20 percent of the vote, according to Kantar. In any case, it is enough to make GroenLinks the largest party in the Stopera territory again.
In Amsterdam, D66 remains stuck at a stable 16 percent. Mark Rutte’s VVD is growing from 11 to 13 percent in our capital. The PvdA and the Party for the Animals are also doing remarkably well in Amsterdam. Both parties are both growing by 2 percent respectively in terms of the number of ‘Amsterdam’ (read: imports, expats, etc.) votes.
So far Amsterdam. In the port and working-class city of Rotterdam, the voter seems a little more realistic. There we see that Leefbaar Rotterdam (Pim Fortuyn’s party) is only making more profit despite a moderate campaign. A stable 21 percent of Rotterdammers opted for Liveable Rotterdam in 2018. That number has now grown to nearly 22 percent. Rotterdam therefore – in contrast to Amsterdam – turns right.
