Decidedly, the life of the Franco-British series murders in paradise is often animated by departures and returns. While Danny John-Jules (Dwayne Myers) had left the series but finally returned at the end of last year for a special Christmas episode, it is the turn of Joséphine Jobert, interpreter of the popular Florence Cassell – who could soon have its own spin-off – to bow out. She, who had already left the series in 2019, had returned to team up with the new investigator, but it seems that the departure is, this time, final. And saying goodbye was not easy for everyone.
“It was a little bitter“
Shantol Jackson is one of the new recruits to the cast of Murders in Paradise. She plays the role of Sergeant Naomi Thomas. Although she only participated in one season alongside Joséphine Jobert, the two women seem to have forged very strong ties. So much so that it is difficult to draw a line. “Her last day on set was actually a scene we did together“says Shantol Jackson”I remember how excited she was that her last scene was a scene with the two of us, we were both so happy, but it was also a little bitter. I remember that at the end, the producers came and gave a nice speech. But I couldn’t look at her.“
The impossible farewell between Shantol Jackson and Joséphine Jobert on the set of Murders in paradise
“She was walking around hugging everyone and when it was my turn I said “leave me alone” because I still had to do a scene after that and my eyes were already full of tears“, explains the actress. “I knew the moment she came to see me, I would crumble. And it would take me a while to recover. I just said, ‘Leave me alone. I’ll see you later. I’ll do this another time. But when we said goodbye, I was screaming.’
