Chelsea have joined Paris Saint-Germain in seeking a move for Manchester City striker Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.
Despite Chelsea making headlines over who will take charge of the club in the summer, that hasn’t stopped media speculation about the type of players the club will try to sign.
And it’s no secret that Thomas Tuchel would like to dig into that transfer kitty and add a couple of attackers to the squad who will have the ability to find the back of the net on a weekly basis, and Mahrez is that type of player.
He has scored 21 goals and provided seven assists in 33 games in all competitions and is easily one of the most creative players in that Manchester City squad, and a player Pep Guardiola really trusts.
However, his contract with Man City expires at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, making him susceptible to offers this summer, and it is understood that there is a lack of progress in negotiating a new deal.
And City Xtra is now reporting that Chelsea have “examined the idea” of signing him, but will face stiff competition from Ligue 1 leaders PSG if they want to acquire his signature.
Guardiola is the kind of manager who gets what he wants, so if he tells the board to make sure Mahrez is signed to stop all speculation about his future, then that is what will happen.

Chelsea are keen to strike some kind of transfer deal, especially after being told by the Spanish club that he could leave the club during the January transfer window after failing to agree that new deal.
That suggested Chelsea were preparing to offer him a massive late-season contact to tempt him to Stamford Bridge in a massive deal, but it seems the Blues board has already started making moves to close a deal.

And finally, Lautaro Martinez’s agent has dealt Chelsea a blow by insisting the Argentine forward is happy at Inter Milan and has no plans to leave the Italian giants at the end of the season.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the South American star as they look to replace Romelu Lukaku, who has struggled to make the impact at the club they had hoped for.

Although this won’t be the best news for Chasing Chelsea, Martinez is the kind of player the club should be looking to sign when the transfer window opens.
World class players who are proven at the top of the game and Chelsea need to sign a striker who can score goals on a weekly basis.
