After the Gala Night of Sports 2020 had to be cancelled, the 2021 version took place online. For 2022, the organizer, the Freiburg sports district, the municipal sports department and organizer Jens Hoffmann have decided to let this year’s edition take place virtually, this time on Saturday, March 26th.
But the gala night wouldn’t be the gala night if it didn’t reinvent itself a bit every time. So this time it will be broadcast from SC Freiburg’s Europa Park Stadium. Sports enthusiasts can thus get a good impression of Freiburg’s new sports gem. Like last year, you can be there live at www.infreiburgzuhause.de.
The approximately 90-minute event begins at 7 p.m. In addition to interesting discussions and insights into the Freiburg sports world, the city’s sports medals are also awarded for outstanding achievements in the past year. Despite the pandemic, Freiburg’s athletes and teams were successful. 68 awards are on the program for the 2021 sports year: 27 youth, 16 bronze, 9 silver and 16 gold sports medals.
The Freiburg Gymnastics Association of 1844 is ahead of the SSV (12) in the club ranking with 15 medals. In terms of sports, roller skating (11 medals) is the sport with the most medals, followed by athletics (9) and diving (7). The deaf badminton player Helga Dießlin is still ahead of Bernhard Maier (23 medals, also GSV) with 25 medals in the “eternal ranking list”. Tobias Plötze (19 medals, diving, SSV) follows in third place.
In order to give the virtual format an interactive touch, there will be a goal wall at the back of the main grandstand of the Europa Park Stadium for spontaneous sports enthusiasts from 6.30 p.m. – as a small substitute for the sports mile popular at the gala night. Until 7.30 p.m. everyone can show their skills with the round leather at the “3 below, 3 above”. Prizes from the Freiburg sports world await the three most accurate. During the gala night, the goal wall will be switched live several times to see who is currently ahead. And at the end of the event, the prizes will be awarded live.
In addition to other program items, the live highlight and conclusion will again be the selection of the athlete and the team of the year 2021. This election already started in January; With the help of the media partner “Freiburger Wochenbericht” the individual pre-selections were presented. Interested parties can still vote using the original ballot paper from the weekly report or online at www.galanacht-des-sports.de.
The organization team sees another online event as an opportunity to hold the social highlight of the Freiburg sports family in an appropriate setting. This event is another sign that Freiburg appreciates sport and its successes even in special times.
