VIVA – Drink wine or wine added to food, is associated with a lower risk of exposure diabetes type 2. That’s according to a new study.
This study shows that consuming alcohol in moderation (no more than 14 grams per day for women and 28 grams per day for men), especially wine with meals, is associated with a lower risk of developing diabetes.
“The effect of alcohol consumption on health has been described as a double-edged sword, due to its apparent ability to cut deeply in both directions, harmful or helpful, depending on how it is consumed,” said study author Hao Ma from Tulane University. Times of IndiaTuesday 8 March 2022.
Alcohol consumption is known to be associated with short- and long-term health risks. These include motor vehicle accidents, violence, risky sexual behavior, high blood pressure or hypertension, obesity, stroke, breast cancer, liver disease, depression, suicide, accidents, alcohol abuse and alcoholism.
These health risks increase as the amount of alcohol a person drinks increases. For some cancers and other health conditions, the risk increases even at very low levels of alcohol consumption of less than 1 drink per day.
In the current study, the researchers involved 312,400 and examined the effects of moderate consumption possibly associated with new-onset type 2 diabetes, among all study participants for approximately 11 years (between 2006 to 2010).
