Nine students contracted respiratory irritation in a swimming pool in the Main-Kinzig district on Tuesday. According to the police in Offenbach, the eleven and twelve-year-old children were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The affected thermal baths in Bad Soden-Salmünster were evacuated for two hours. Fire brigade, rescue service and police were on site with a large contingent.
Bad Soden-Salmünster/Offenbach – According to initial investigations, the respiratory irritation could have been caused by so-called stinky spray – possibly even intentionally. “A possible escape of chlorine gas or another technical cause was not determined,” said a police spokesman. The emergency services were called shortly after 9 a.m. when several students complained of being unwell and short of breath. How many people were in the bathroom at the time was initially unclear. dpa
