MEhdi Bayat presented the model of the new Sporting de Charleroi stadium on Monday during a Facebook Live.
“There is a saturation in the stadium at the level of ‘business seats’ and VIPs, in addition to the T4 which is sold-out”, declared the strong man of the Zebras. “The new stadium will have to move us into the category of the biggest Belgian clubs because our income will increase. When we look at the financial analyzes on the evolution of Sporting, we will have the means to be competitive with the biggest in the country. »
This new stadium is therefore of capital importance for the “business model” of the Carolo club. “Since the takeover of the club, which was then in virtual bankruptcy, the club has created more than 20 million in wealth, without making any capital increase,” explained Bayat. “Sporting is the healthiest club in Belgium, but faces competition that can be seen as unfair compared to others who can afford to add new resources. The sale of players is 50% of our budget. For the rest, 17% come from TV rights, 17% from sponsors, 10% from ticketing and 6% from elsewhere. To reverse this ‘business model’, we must play on these cursors, in particular via TV rights by joining the G5, which we were close to, but the arrival of Antwerp risks making us lose a place. The new stadium should allow us to move these sliders in order to perhaps reduce the impact of the sale of players. »
