An eleven-year-old boy from the Ukraine crossed the border into Slovakia all alone – equipped only with a plastic bag, his passport and a telephone number scrawled on his hand. “He came from Zaporizhia, his parents had to stay in Ukraine,” Slovakian police spokeswoman Denisa Bardyova told the AFP news agency on Sunday. Volunteers took care of the boy.
The mother put the boy on a train to Slovakia on Saturday, where the family has relatives. The father, like all men of military age, was not allowed to leave Ukraine. The mother had to stay to continue caring for her disabled mother. In a video message on Facebook on Sunday, Julia Pisezkaja thanked all Slovakian supporters for their “big heart”.
