The head of the state government is stuck in the home office because of Corona: Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) has contracted the virus, Deputy Prime Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) is still recovering from a serious Covid disease. Both have been vaccinated three times.
Kretschmann tested positive on Monday, but has not had any symptoms so far, the government headquarters said. The 73-year-old is now in quarantine at home. However, he will lead the virtual meeting of the green-black cabinet this Tuesday from home. But there will be no government press conference, instead Justice Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) will be providing information on the situation of Ukrainian refugees in the south-west.
Strobl back home after hospital stay
Minister of the interior and CDU country chief Strobl was infected two weeks ago. It hit him hard: he was in the hospital for five days because of a pulmonary embolism and pneumonia. The 61-year-old CDU country chief has been back at home since Friday and wants to recover there.
In a pulmonary embolism, a blood vessel is blocked by a blood clot. The Ministry of the Interior explained that, according to the doctors treating the patients, the diagnoses were serious, but that the diseases could be treated well. A full recovery can be expected.
Strobl will now initially work from home and will also take part in the virtual meeting of the state government this Tuesday. According to the announcement, the 61-year-old minister said that after the experiences of the past few days, he was all the more grateful for the three corona vaccinations he had received. “In this situation you also think about how things would go if you didn’t have these vaccinations.”
The number of infections in Baden-Württemberg is increasing
The infections highlight the situation in the country. Most of the restrictions have been relaxed as the situation in the intensive care units in the clinics has improved. But the number of infections is increasing and increasing.
