Still, it’s not for lack of trying. But Cédric Pardeilhan’s players will always have lacked a touch of realism, efficiency or success. The English coach had warned that the meeting would not be easy at all. The evening visitors showed up more or less with the same device as the locals, in 3-5-2 and even in 5-3-2 to end the match.
They tried to get the balls out properly from their goalkeeper Demazeau, warmly nicknamed “Bernardoni” by some English supporters. But they returned a lot of balls to the Genêts, who unfortunately did not know how to take advantage of it.
Lack of success
However, the Basque players took the game by the right end. Arnaud Haure, launched in depth by Thomas Daguerre, was joined in extremis by Lamgahez. On the corner that followed, Xan Harlouchet, at the near post, did not fit his head (3rd).
Ten minutes later, Lilian Laplace-Palette also missed the target with a nice shot from the left (13th). His brother Lucas was then at the conclusion of a very good one-two with his captain Claverie, but he missed his sequence alone against Demazeau (37th). The Genêts dominated and were only very rarely worried by the Châtelleraudais, except on a single occasion, with Mavinzi’s shot from close to the side, at the end of a quick counter initiated by the trio Chevalier, Sagim, Chaffard (22nd ).
Favre hits the crossbar
The second act did not show anything else. Anglet had a little trouble getting into battle after the quarter-hour break but very quickly got back to where it was. Mehdi Jaki did not manage to press his crossed head well on a cross from Flo Becaas (61st), Daguerre sent over when he was in a good position in the box (69th), Thomas Lapeyre was hung in the box but M Jourda, well placed, did not flinch (74th) and Demazeau removed on his line two cumulative attempts from Daguerre and Lapeyre (76th).
The Genêts further increased the pressure in the last ten minutes. Claverie placed a header just above the bar (81st) but it was Baptiste Favre, the newcomer, who would have the two biggest opportunities: on the first, he found Demazeau’s crossbar (88th) and on the second, he came a little too short at the far post, on a pass from Jaki (92nd).
The Genêts thus let slip two precious points after those against Chauvigny just a month ago.
