THE BALL – He is Ukrainian, assistant at Zenit and is under strong criticism (Ukraine)

Anatoliy Tymoshchuk, a former Ukrainian international who currently serves as an assistant in the Zenit Saint Petersburg technical team, is being criticized for his silence in the face of the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

“Where are you? Where did you put your tongue? Are you our countryman? Did you paint the flag on your face just to show off?”, asked in a video posted on social media Oleksander Aliyev, Tymoshchuk’s former teammate in the Ukrainian national team.

Tymoshchuk has been part of Zenit’s coaching staff since 2017, after ending his playing career, during which, in addition to the Saint Petersburg club, he represented, among others, Shakhtar Donetsk and Bayern Munich. He is still the player with the most appearances in the Ukraine national team (144 games).

Many are not understanding Tymoshchuk’s silence, not least because last week the only Ukrainian player who was at Zenit, Yaroslav Rakitskiy, requested the termination of his contract.

For Ruslan Malinovskyi, the current star of the Ukrainian national team, who works in Atalanta (Italy), has joined the list of critics. “What Tymoshchuk is doing is not right, his marks will be forgotten and he will no longer be a legend of Ukrainian football”, he considered.
