Tel Aviv, New York, Hamburg: People show solidarity with Ukraine

Hundreds of people protested for peace in Ukraine in front of the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv. The demonstrators carried Ukrainian flags and banners reading “Stop the War”.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett attempted mediation on Saturday evening, first with Kremlin chief Putin in Moscow and then with Chancellor Scholz in Berlin. So far, however, without success.

She is against Putin, he incites the Ukrainians against the Russians and is a tyrant, is how one demonstrator summed up her attitude to Putin’s war in Ukraine.

People also rallied in Times Square in New York to show their support for the Ukrainian people and to demand more action from the US, NATO and the EU – such as declaring a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

“We are on the good side and protecting our country,” said a protester of Ukrainian descent. “Ukraine has always been a peaceful country. We never wanted war. The Ukrainians never attacked anyone.”

In many German cities, too, people took to the streets for Ukraine. In Hamburg alone, according to the police, up to 30,000 participants came together at a rally.

People of different generations also expressed their solidarity in Munich, Düsseldorf and Osnabrück.
