The Polish government talks with the United States about the delivery of MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. One condition of Poland is that America fills the gap in the fleet with F-16s. Several White House officials confirm this to the American news site Politico.
In Warsaw there has been talk since last week about the delivery of fighter jets to Ukraine. The White House does not object to Poland providing fighter jets, which could lead to an escalation between NATO and Moscow.
“We are working with Poles on this issue and are consulting with the rest of our NATO allies,” a White House spokesman told Politico. For now, Poland still keeps its fighter jets within its own borders.
Poland has been flying F-16s since 2006, before that it used the MiG-29 fighter jets. In 2020, the country ordered more than thirty F-35s. The first of these will be delivered in two years.
