Smothered baby in Gemünden: will the case come before the court again in Würzburg?

A violently suffocated baby from Gemünden (district Main-Spessart) is now occupying the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) in Leipzig: Next Tuesday it will examine the judgment of the Würzburg Regional Court from February 2021. At that time, the mother’s drug-addicted friend had received eleven years in prison for manslaughter as punishment for allegedly suffocating the screaming infant in 2019 – in order to be able to continue watching television undisturbed. The public prosecutor’s office and defense requested revision, but the judgment was too high for defense attorney Hanjo Schrepfer – and the senior public prosecutor Thorsten Seebach too mild.
