GroenLinks and D66 neck-and-neck in Groningen municipal elections

‘Disappointment for City Party’
In itself it is no surprise that D66 and GroenLinks appear to be the two largest parties in Groningen, says reporter Marten Nauta. ‘It is striking that no party will become as big as GL is now: that party now has eleven seats in the municipal council, D66 comes out at eight to nine seats in this poll. D66 and GL may benefit from the lack of Volt on the ballot. That party is participating in the two other cities surveyed, Amsterdam and Utrecht. The Groningen local party Student & City received Volt’s cancellation on the ballot with joy, but does not seem to benefit from it.

The Stadspartij 100% for Groningen polls at 7.8 percent of the votes. The merger party arose from the City Party, 100% Groningen and the Sport Party. Together, these three parties received almost 12 percent of the vote in the previous reclassification elections: the poll can therefore be seen as a setback for Amrut Sijbolts’ party. One explanation is that the Party for the North is also participating in the upcoming elections: with the current poll, that party can hope for two seats.’
