Thousands of people again took to the streets in Düsseldorf on Saturday to protest the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Under the motto “Together against Russian aggression”, the participants called for an end to the war and expressed their solidarity with the people of Ukraine. According to the police, around 5,000 demonstrators were on the street. “These days, the heart of Düsseldorf is beating blue and yellow,” said Düsseldorf Mayor Stephan Keller (CDU) at the rally.

The deputy head of government in North Rhine-Westphalia, Joachim Stamp (FDP), emphasized: “We are also thinking of the courageous Russians who are taking to the streets despite severe repression.” And: “We want to shape Europe together with a peace-loving Russia at some point”. According to the FDP member of the Bundestag Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, the Russian war of aggression came “with an announcement”.

NRW Greens leader Mona Neubaur called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war and at the same time warned that Russian citizens should not be condemned for the crimes of the “war criminal”.

For the organizers, speaker Olena Dubas-Chornuk called for a no-fly zone over Ukraine. However, NATO had already rejected a corresponding request from Ukraine. The attack on the nuclear power plant near the city of Zaporizhia was “a kind of nuclear terrorism,” Dubas-Chornuk said.
