The Valencian Community reaches the highest flu vaccination coverage in the last decade

VALENCIA (EP). The Valencian Community has reached this winter the highest flu vaccination coverage of the last decade in the main risk groups: pregnant women, health personnel and people over 64 years of age.

This vaccination coverage is the highest in the recent historical series (last decade) due to two factors, according to Health in a statement. The first, “social awareness in favor of the prevention of the flu that began when the pandemic broke out and there was still no vaccine against the coronavirus,” he explained.

Then, the public understood that they should get vaccinated against the flu to avoid a possible co-infection with SARS-CoV-2 and, now, the figures show that this trend is consolidating.

In addition, this winter, the simultaneous administration of vaccines for influenza and Covid has also contributed to the increase in the flu vaccination rate.

Thus, in the 2021-22 campaign, 79% of pregnant women received the flu vaccine compared to 71% in the 2020-2021 season and 63% in 2019-20. In health personnel, the average coverage is 95% (94% in 2020-21 and 65.5% in 2019-20). In addition, in 13 health departments it is around 100%.

For their part, almost seven out of ten people over 64 years of age have been vaccinated this winter (69% compared to 67% and 53%).

Of the total doses of the flu vaccine administered this campaign, 51.35% have been declared in the province of Valencia, 37.44% in Alicante and 11.21% in Castellón, according to the information contained in the System of Vaccination Information of the Valencian Community.
