Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Step President Vlamidir Putin invade Ukraine not only reaping criticism from the international world, but also from within Russia. A wave of protests and condemnation of the invasion was widely conveyed by civilians, businessmen, the opposition, and the media.
In fact, Russian businessman Alex Konanykhin reportedly made a contest to arrest Putin as a war criminal with a prize of US $ 1 million or around Rp. 14.3 billion. He said the reason for the competition was his moral burden as a Russian citizen.
“I promise to pay $1 million to officers who, in accordance with their constitutional obligations, arrested Putin as a war criminal under Russian and international law,” Konanykhin wrote.
“As an ethnic Russian and a Russian citizen, I see it as my moral obligation to facilitate the denazification of Russia,” Konanykhin said in a post on Facebook, Wednesday (2/3).
It also said it would continue to provide assistance to Ukraine in the face of Russian attacks.
Then, Alexei Navalny, Putin’s opposition joined in condemning and calling on Russian citizens to launch a national disobedience movement in the country against the invasion of Ukraine.
“Putin is calling for war on Ukraine and trying to make everyone think Ukraine was attacked by Russia, which is, by all of us. But that’s not true,” the Navalny camp wrote on their Twitter account, Monday (28/2), as reported by Reuters.
“We have to show we don’t support war. We call on Russians to show civil disobedience. Don’t stand still.”
Navalny, Putin’s strongest opposition, was jailed in 2021 when he returned to Russia after a brief spell in Germany.
According to the West, Navalny is said to have been poisoned in Siberia. However, Russia has denied carrying out the attack.
In line with Navalny’s invitation, many Russian civilians took to the streets to protest against Putin’s invasion. However, many of them were arrested by the authorities. The numbers continue to grow.
On Friday (25/2), at least 1,700 local residents were arrested in 53 Russian cities. The figure increased to 3,000 people on Saturday (26/2).
Meanwhile, the latest data from the OVD-Info group which monitors protests and arrests in Russia states that 6,006 people were arrested in anti-war demonstrations.
