NEW YORK / OSLO (VG) Britain demands that Russia take responsibility and keep hostilities away from nuclear power plants. The United States is also taking a hard line: – Putin must stop this madness.
Colleagues, this is the first time a state has attacked an active nuclear power plant. International law requires special security around nuclear power plants. It is difficult to see how Russia does this. Russia must keep the fighting away from power plants, Britain’s UN ambassador Barbara Woodward demanded during her speech to the Security Council.
– Putin underestimated Europe. With each passing day, the suffering increases. We ask Russia to end the attacks and start serious peace talks, she continued.
Norway and four other member states requested that an emergency meeting be called after the attack on the nuclear power plant.
USA: – Putin must stop this madness
Video images from the nuclear power plant showed heavy artillery fire Thursday night and Friday night. The plant is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and is located in the town of Enerhodar.
– Nuclear power plants can not be part of this conflict, said US UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield clearly in his permanent place as a veto power in the Security Council.
– The world demands that Russia cares about international human rights. President Putin must stop this humanitarian catastrophe by stopping the war. Putin must stop this madness and he must stop it now.
