Since the release of Returnal, it has been largely unclear what Housmarque is up to. There are updates released for the game, but that usually doesn’t require the whole team. It is therefore obvious that the studio is working on a new game.
That has now also been confirmed by Ilari Kuittinen, the managing director of the studio. He told VentureBeat that the studio is indeed already working on a new game. This is a new IP that is still in the concept phase.
What kind of game does Housemarque make?
The new game is still at a very early stage. It will therefore be a while before we know what to expect from Housemarque’s new title. It should be clear that there is no sequel to Returnal for the time being, or at least not from Housemarque itself.
The studio does indicate that it wants to preserve their own identity. Sony wants to do more with live-service games in the coming time, but it is not said that Housmarque will participate. There would be enough variety in the gaming landscape that the studio would not have to piggyback on trends. There is therefore a chance that the new IP Housemarques will also retain an arcade feeling.
