Roman Abramovich will sell Chelsea, the club he has built for almost 19 years. Does that mean director Marina Granovskaia will also remove?
Reported Daily Telegraph, prospective Chelsea buyers are open to the idea of keeping the 47-year-old in the club’s structure, given her reputation for building Chelsea over the years. However, there is one condition that must be met.
The condition is that Granovskaia must break professional ties with Abramovich. This means that he is fully focused on the club and no longer takes care of the Russian-born tycoon. Understandably, he has been working as his personal advisor for 18 years.
Granovskaia is Abramovich’s right hand in the Chelsea run. The woman nicknamed the Iron Lady was the only person at Chelsea with whom Abramovich regularly communicated.
He has been involved with the club since 2010, serving as Abramovich’s representative. Then in 2013, he joined the board of directors.
Granovskaia is proficient in managing player contracts, transfers, and appointing managers. His work was also appreciated by outsiders, even until he was awarded the best club director award in 2021 by the Italian sports daily, Tuttosport.
Regarding who the new owner of Chelsea is, it is likely that they will be present in the form of a consortium. Swiss daily, view said Swiss billionaire duo Hansjorg Wyss and American tycoon Todd Boehly had been at the forefront of acquiring Chelsea.
Abramovich is believed to be asking for at least £3 billion, about 21 times what he was worth when he took over at Chelsea in 2003. To ease the burden on the club, he will also not collect the £1.5 billion loan he gave to Chelsea.
