Almost 875,000 Ukrainians left the country in a week. More than half went to Poland, the rest to Hungary, Slovakia, Romania and Moldova.
Ukrainians who fled to EU countries after the start of the war in Ukraine received the right to live in the EU for three years. About this on Thursday, March 3, reported in the State Border Service.
“Ukrainian refugees will have the right to live and work in the European Union for up to three years in accordance with the emergency plan,” the report says.
According to border guards, almost 875,000 people left Ukraine in a week. More than half – 454 thousand – went to Poland, 116 thousand – to Hungary, 67 thousand – to Slovakia, 45 thousand – to Romania and 79 thousand – to Moldova, which is not part of the EU.
“The EU provides for granting citizens of Ukraine and residents of the country the right to live, work, receive medical care, housing and education immediately for up to one year, without having to go through lengthy asylum procedures. If the conflict continues for a long time or refugees cannot return safely, this status may be extended for another two years,” the State Border Guard Service informed.
In addition, Ukrainian citizens already have a 90-day visa-free access to the EU, but this unprecedented change in EU law guarantees them status after that period.
As for persons without Ukrainian citizenship or the right to permanent residence, that is, foreigners, foreign students, will not receive the right to stay in the EU, but they will be helped to return to their country of origin.
