Football is always more than a game. Football is an emotional big bang that pervades all social classes. Thousands of people celebrate and cry together. It’s no wonder that politics and business are trying to turn it into a pawn. A new educational series Viennese adult education centres dedicated to football.
Green and white under the swastika
The series will start with the former Rapideum coordinator Laurin Rosenberg on March 15 at 6:00 p.m. in the adult education center in Liesing with the highly acclaimed work “Green-White under the Swastika”. SK Rapid became German champion in 1941 and German cup winner in 1938. How should a club deal with such successes today? A historically exciting evening is guaranteed – not only for Rapid fans.
Mythos Hakoah
An evening will be dedicated to the first Austrian champion in professional football on March 17 at 6:00 p.m. in the Jewish Institute for Adult Education. The Jewish sports club SC Hakoah is still an important part of the Viennese sports landscape. Who were the players and officials who fell victim to Nazi terror? Prof. Dr. Paul Haber is President of the Hakoah and will lead through this evening of Austrian sports history.
Racism in the stadium
The soccer field is not exempt from racism and discrimination. Is it really only right-wing fan clubs that infiltrate the stands and bring them under control? And what can you do to take action against racism in the stadium? political scientist Dr. Georg Spitaler and Kurt Wachter, MA, heads of the Fairplay initiative and co-founders of the FARE network (Football Against Racism in Europe) provide an insight into this area of conflict. On March 22nd at 6 p.m. in the VHS Hernals.
Who owns the football? Big business vs. fan curve
At a time when superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo are raking in millions and transfers are becoming a monopoly game, a very special question arises: How far has modern football been alienated from its roots and fans? Author Christian Bartlau (“The market-compliant football”) will pursue this burning question on March 28 at 6 p.m. in the Floridsdorf adult education center.
The end of the series will take place on April 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the adult education center in Penzing. Professional photographer Kurt Prinz captured the legendary Rapids homestead before it was demolished in his illustrated book “The Last Days of the Hanappi Stadium”. The foreword was written by former Rapideum coordinator Laurin Rosenberg.
