Creating a no-fly zone over Ukraine would threaten the United States with war with Russia. This was stated by Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj had called for a no-fly zone for Russia.
“US President Joe Biden has made it clear that American troops will not fight Russia in Ukraine. Maintaining a no-fly zone, if implemented, would require contact with Russian aircraft. This would threaten us with a war with Russia,” Mr. Austin said in an interview with the American television network NBC.
Earlier, in one of his video addresses to the nation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said it was time for the West to consider imposing a no-fly zone for Russian missiles, planes and helicopters in response to the Russian shelling of Kharkov. The Lord has not specified how and by whom the no-fly regime is to be enforced. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg ruled out the introduction of a no-fly zone over Ukraine by the alliance forces. At the same time, the head of Vladimir Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, said that while Ukraine understands that the introduction of a no-fly zone could lead to a direct conflict between NATO and Russia, it still calls for such a measure.
