Not only that, the mayor of Kherson, Igor Kolykhayev, stated that Russian troops managed to take over the train station and port overnight.
Kolykhayev also protested against Russia because the city he leads is where civilians live, not the military. This attack contradicts Russia’s claim that it will only attack military installations.
“People’s buildings and public facilities are on fire. We are not the military! However, I will defend the city and its functions as long as I can,” he said.
“If the Russian troops and their leaders hear me. I beg you, leave our city, stop shooting civilians. You have taken everything you wanted, including human life.”
CNN reported, Russian troops were seen roaming freely through Kherson. A number of Russian military vehicles were also parked in Svobody Square, the area that houses the Kherson regional administrative center.
