In an exciting match of the Women’s FA Cup, we lived another edition of the Manchester derby where the “citizens” had an incredible response capacity by coming from behind, coming back from behind and ending up throwing United by a landslide.
The match, which was played on Sunday, February 27, began with the same intensity as always, to what these two teams have accustomed us to whenever they face each other. City being overtaken in the opening minutes of the game, they were unable to keep a clean sheet and Katie Zelem opened the scoring for the Red Devils from a corner.
City spent the entire first half down on the scoreboard. Being United who dared a little more. We got to the break and fifteen minutes later the story would change drastically.
City came out with another chip for the second half. He began to generate and put pressure on United, who could not cope with the pressure and the draw came in the 50th minute through Lauren Hemp and from there, in a matter of 10 minutes, the game was over for Manchester United.
At minute 58, Ellen White fell 2-1. Two minutes later Caroline Weir made it 3-1 and so, at minute 60 the game was already 3-1 in favor of City.
United could not do anything in a second period totally dominated by the “citizens” who found the 4-1 through Khadija Shaw and even the dominance of Gareth Taylor’s team was so great that a fifth goal fell, the work of Julie Blakstad, but in the end, the goal was disallowed by a prior City foul.
The whistle blew for the last time and thus, Marc Skinner’s Manchester United was left out of the FA Cup after falling by a landslide and in this way, Manchester City advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament adding their second consecutive victory against United in the last 15 days, because a couple of dates ago, in the league, they defeated them with a score of 1-0.
