President United States of America (AS) Joe Biden warned that the President of Russia Vladimir Putin will pay a heavy price for his decision to invade Ukraine. Biden is also determined to isolate Putin from the rest of the world by targeting the oligarchs Russia who supported his government.
In his State of the Union address at the Capitol Building, Washington DC, as reported by CNNWednesday (2/3/2022), Biden asserted that Putin himself is to blame for Russian invasion of Ukraine. He stated that Putin would ‘pay a heavy price sustainably for the long term’.
“Tonight, I say to the Russian oligarchs and corrupt leaders who made billions of dollars from this cruel regime, no more,” he stressed.
“The United States Department of Justice is setting up a special task force to hunt down the crimes of the Russian oligarchs,” Biden said in his speech.
Biden pledged to cooperate with US allies in Europe in seizing the lavish assets of the oligarchs and corrupt officials who support Putin.
“We are joining our European allies in finding and confiscating their yachts, their luxury apartments, their private jets. We will pursue your illicit profits,” Biden said in his warning.
The US and the European Union are known to have released a list of oligarchs who were sanctioned over Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
“We stick together. We fought Russia’s lies with the truth, and now, now that she is acting, the free world is holding her accountable,” Biden said.
“Putin is now isolated from the world more than ever,” Biden said in his State of the Union address to members of the US Congress, which was met with thunderous applause. “He (Putin-red) does not know what will happen,” he added, referring to sanctions and punishments imposed by the West on Russia.
