Broccoli and cabbage against cancer

A recent study by scientists at Hiroshima University in Japan and published in PLOS One found a molecule in broccoli and cabbage that offers a research avenue for cancer treatment. INFOSALUS
It is DIM or ´3,3´-diindolylmethane that induces cell death in breast, prostate and colon cancer. While not tested in humans, study author Dr. Masaru Ueno notes that single-cell fission yeast allows for easier examination of the molecular machinery that mimics behavior in more complex organisms.
This is relevant because DIM is a potential anticancer drug that acts by inducing apoptosis in a wide range of cancer types because it induces autophagy in cancer cells.
The researcher points out that there is still much to understand about the mechanism of apoptosis and autophagy by DIM in fission yeast, but he has no doubt that it will be useful for research on human cancer and longevity.
