Daile Theater will continue to finance the performance with Malkovičs and Dapkunaitis with its own funds / Article

As explained in the theater statement, the Territory Foundation for the Development of Contemporary Art from Russia co-financed the production of the scenery and the artistic costs of the first rehearsal period in the first phase of the project. “It simply came to our notice then. Rehearsals are scheduled to resume in early May, ”the theater said.

Representatives of the theater explained that from March 1, the number of spectators in the theater hall will not be limited, and by summarizing the ticket revenue and seeing the audience’s interest in the project, the theater predicts that it will be able to finance the project only from ticket sales.

“There are currently no reasons for the financial premiere of the premiere at the end of May,” the statement said.

The director of the show, Timofey Kulabin, is currently working in Prague and in May he is scheduled to continue working for Daile at “Cotton Rural Loneliness”. Meanwhile, this week, the artistic team, including key figures in the project, actors John Malkovic and Ingeborg Dapkunait and director Kulabin, will decide how to work further to complete the project.

“We are confident that the well-planned international project, with John Malkovich and Ingeborg Dapkunaite in the main roles, will go as planned. Tickets for the additional seats that will be available as a result of the deregulation will start once the conditions for the project have been fully understood, ”said the theater, emphasizing:

“And it’s only self-evident that we won’t allow any artist or co-production partner to collaborate with our theater if he supports Russia’s war in Ukraine.”

CONTEXT:

A number of Latvian cultural institutions have announced that they will no longer cooperate with guest artists who have not expressed clear condemnation of Russia’s war in Ukraine. Minister of Culture of Latvia Nauris Puntulis (National Association) unilaterally decided to terminate Cooperation agreement between the Ministries of Culture of Latvia and Russia signed in 2002.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recognizes Donetsk and Luhansk “People’s Republics” on February 21 independence from Ukraine. Putin threatened Ukraine by demanding that Ukraine immediately cease hostilities against the separatists, “otherwise all responsibility for the possible continued bloodshed will rest entirely with the conscience of the ruling regime in Ukraine.”

But on February 24, Putin announcedthat Russia has launched a “military operation” in Ukraine and called on the Ukrainian army to “lay down its arms”. This caused the democratic world even more condemnation and the next steps in sanctions against Russia.
