Bernie Ecclestone has exceeded 91 (meaning the age), but does not intend to stop arousing doubts and perplexities with his utterances to the limits of the paradox, even when it comes to expressing himself on Vladimir Putin and the next Russian GP.
“A reliable person, and of his word,” the former F1 boss told Times Radio, describing Putin a few days after the invasion of Ukraine by the troops of fly and the decision of the FIA to cancel the Russian race, scheduled for next September.
Ecclestone: the opinion on the FIA’s decision to cancel the Russian GP
Several times portrayed and photographed together with Putin, Ecclestone stands with similar statements in an antithetical position in a very delicate phase that has led the highest authorities and institutions of sport towards the exclusion of Russia from the main agendas, including engines, such as the cancellation of the race scheduled on the shores of the Black Sea. Although this decision by the SONthe former number one of the circus does not agree:
“I don’t think it makes any difference whether or not there will be a GP in Russia compared to what is happening in the world – Ecclestone said -. How can someone from the outside judge exactly what is happening today? ”.
Ecclestone’s words about Putin
Ecclestone he went so far, during the interview, to defend Putinunequivocally:
“As an interlocutor, I have always found him direct and honest. He has always done what he promised to do, without discussion ”.
To those who pointed out that the Russian president changed his opinion on the Ukrainian invasion, first excluding it and then carrying it out, the former patron coldly replied: “The conditions change, don’t they?”.
As it is known, Ecclestone no longer has a prominent role in the organization of the F1 World Championship (which in fact he invented) while remaining among the undisputed protagonists in the world of engines and motoring.
