Intel and AMD stop supplying processors to Russia, TSMC rejects further orders

Intel and AMD cut off supplies of their chips to Russiain response to the attack on Ukraine. Other US suppliers are likely to take a similar step, as there is talk of a forthcoming ban on electronics exports. The United States is thus likely to introduce a ban on exports of selected goods without an explicit export license this week. This would affect not only computer processors, but also other electronics or aircraft components.

The Taiwanese company TSMC also announced its reaction, announcing the cessation of production for Russian customers and rejecting their further orders. This means an interruption in the supply of chips that are being developed directly in Russia, such as the Baikal BE-M1000. The disruption has already been confirmed by the Russian Association of Russian Developers and Electronics Manufacturers (ARPE).

The restriction should apply primarily to chips intended for military use, not ordinary user processors. However, it can be assumed that all deliveries will be shut down first and then some of them may be resumed. The companies declined to comment in detail on the whole process. However, due to the declining exchange rate of the Russian ruble, the purchase of all electronics is likely to fall sharply.
